HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

The Certification in this course covers the information and skills needed to do successful CPR first aid training. How to assess and manage a first aid situation, learning about automatic external defibrillators or an AED and how to use them. Learning your legal responsibilities as a First Aider and the DRSABCD process. Provide CPR training by First Aid Course Experts (FACE) is in line with and adhering to the Australian Resuscitation Council or ARC guidelines.

Course Title:	Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Method of Teaching:	A blend of online learning and face-to-face first aid training
Duration:	The training provided by FACE is a blend of an online portion or e-learning that can be completed at the participant’s own pace. The e-learning is to be completed before face-to-face training commences. This portion can be done in one sitting or multiple sessions online. Overall, it should take approximately two and a half hours to complete. The in-person part of the course assessment takes two hours of classroom time to complete.
Assessment:	Written and practical scenario-based assessment
Age Requirement:	Any participant training in first aid must be over the age of 14
Certificate Valid:	1 year upon course completion and a review every 12 months is recommended for CPR training Certifications.

Course Content

This CPR course covers the skills and knowledge in the following:

Being able to recognise and assess an emergency
How to ensure the safety of yourself, other first aiders, bystanders and the casualty
How to evaluate a casualty and recognise the need for CPR or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
When to pursue assistance from emergency services
Being able to perform CPR successfully in accordance with the ARC guidelines
To demonstrate respectful and tactful behaviour towards casualties
How to operate CPR equipment like the automated external defibrillator or an AED according to instructions laid out by the manufacturers
Exactly and precisely convey details of the incident to emergency services
Reporting details of the incident that are in line with proper workplace or site measures

How to uphold the privacy and confidentiality of information in keeping with legal or organisational policies
Contribute to a revisional of first aid situations as required
Being able to recognise possible mental or emotional impacts that may arise in yourself or other first aiders and know when help may be required

CPR Certificate Issued

After completing the CPR training, a digital certificate in HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a Statement of Attainment that will be delivered into your student management account to the participant on the same day after successful completion of meeting all course requirements. It is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council, ARC, to renew CPR certification every 12 months. To do this, it’s just a matter of doing a refresher course with an RTO such as FACE.

Things to Consider

Assessment criteria require students to correctly perform 2 or more minutes of continuous CPR on an adult-sized manikin that will be placed on the floor. How long does it take to complete CPR first aid training?

Same-day certification can be received when you meet all the requirements of the training course covering all theory, practice and practical work.

Is CPR a part of first aid?

Yes, the CPR component is included in the First Aid training course. This will be listed on your first aid certificate.

Can you get CPR certified online?

CPR training requires the participant to do at least a 2-minute uninterrupted demonstration of CPR on the floor on an adult manikin, and that the learner has a working knowledge of DRSABCD. This is why completing the first aid course online is preferred for theory purposes and practical aspects need to be done in person with trainer theory, practice, and assessment.

Is an online CPR certification valid?

The online portion of the course is only one part of the requirements. There must be a working demonstration of CPR and knowledge-based on DRSABCD- to meet all training requirements. All other guidelines for meeting these outcomes also need to be met.

Is a CPR certificate the same as a first-aid certificate?

No. CPR qualifications provide training in CPR covering the units of competency HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which includes operating an AED. However, other first-aid qualifications covering the units of competency HLTAID011 Provide First Aid covers topics like bandaging techniques and managing severe bleeds, poisonings, and other conditions like diabetes, anaphylaxis, asthma, seizures, strokes, and more. How long does a CPR qualification last?

The CPR qualification lasts up to a year upon unit completion and should be refreshed every 12 months.
