This course covers a lot of ground, including the management of anaphylaxis, epilepsy, fever, pain, asthma, diarrhoea and diabetes, as well as using an AED and performing CPR. It is focused on the medical needs of children and infants and is well-suited to the needs of workers in education and childcare, who are legally required to be trained in first aid.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a First Aid response to infants and children in line with First Aid guidelines determined by the ARC and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
This unit applies to a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a First Aid emergency.

The online learning beforehand will take around an hour, depending on your ability, but it’s best to give yourself a few hours to get through it to be safe.
This course will be the minimum needed by most to be considered qualified in first aid for the workplace. Accordingly, this course is very popular.
In this course you will learn basic life support, the DRSABCD order of actions for performing first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the operation of asthma inhalers and AEDs and how to apply a bandage.
The in-person training for this course goes for four hours while the preliminary reading can take up to six (many people complete it in much less time, though).
Knowing first aid is mandatory for people who work with children, and HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an education and care setting provides a great option for education and childcare workers looking to meet this obligation. The focus with this course is on first aid for babies and children.
Six hours should be enough to complete the preliminary reading and online learning for this course, although depending on your speed and your knowledge of the subject, you may get through it much more quickly. The practical learning in Kawana Waters goes for five hours.
