The manual handling refresher course is a way to update and renew your manual handling qualifications annually, without the need to re-take the full manual handling course. To participate, you must have previously completed the HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely course.
Workplace staff that are directly involved with the moving of and handling of clients are generally required to complete manual handling training, and keep those qualifications current. This includes many different roles in the health care industry, including nurses, ambulance staff, physiotherapists, student nurses (pre-placement), occupational therapists, medical staff, and people working in the disability support or aged care sectors. All these roles require manual handling certification that is updated annually.

HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely training (commonly known as manual handling) is provided at a number of our venues. These are fully equipped with hoists, hospital beds, slide sheets, and all the equipment required to practice and demonstrate safe manual handling tasks. - Transfer from chair to chair/commode/toilet.
- Hoisting from chair to bed/bed to chair/commode to bed
- Assisted walking – raising a fallen person
- Instructing the person to raise themselves
- Hoisting a person from the floor
- Followed legally compliant workplace procedures to prepare for and complete at least 3 different manual tasks relevant to the work role
